La cérémonie d'ouverture du Zicatela Pro a eu lieu en présence du ministre des Sports Jaime Gutierrez Jones qui a accueilli les riders de l'IBA World Tour et lancé cet événement d'envergure qui va attirer un public nombreux et sera retransmis dans le monde entier. Une blessure à l'épaule de Yeray Martinez, le retrait de Diego Cabrera et Eder Luciano donnent la possibilité aux qualifiés en demi-finales d'arriver à rejoindre le GSS.  Le check-in aura lieu le 4 août à 7h avec un début de compétition prévu à 7h30

The opening ceremony saw Mr. Jaime Gutierrez Jones (Minister of Sport) welcome the IBA and its competitors to Puerto Escondido. With more than 80 of the worlds best bodyboarders vying for the top spot in this Grand Slam event, performances are guaranteed to stun the local crowd and online viewers world wide. An unfortunate shoulder injury suffered by Yeray Martines (CNR), and late withdrawals by Diego Cabrera (CNR) and Eder Luciano (BRA), have opened up a total of 8 slots to the top trialists. This allows all semifinalists of the trials to secure slots into the main event. The Event call will be made at 7am local time on the 4th of August, with a possible 7:30 start.
