Hawaï 2011 : la saison est lancée

Après les Canaries en Décembre, je suis rentré à La Réunion, juste à temps pour les fêtes de Noël et du Nouvel An avec tous mes amis, profitant de la belle chaleur de l’été austral, après un passage à Paris sous les intempéries. Après les fêtes, dès le 2 janvier, j’ai repris sérieusement l’entraînement pour me préparer et être à bloc pour la saison hawaïenne. Programme complet : vélo, fitness, plongée, paddle, Jiutjitsu et beaucoup de stretching. Après un mois d’entraînement, j’étais prêt à partir. J’ai pris mon billet pour Honolulu via Sydney. C'est pour moi le trajet le plus court et le moins cher au départ de La Réunion. Le 3 je m’envolais pour Sydney où j’ai passé deux jours, j’ai récupéré des nouvelles planches, elles sont géniales. Merci Dan Sivess. Je suis arrivé à Oahu le 5 février, Jeff Hubbard est venu me chercher à l’aéroport et on a filé sur le North Shore. Pipe Line envoyait de vagues de 5 pieds et la houle était attendue au arvo. On a surfé pendant cinq heures, dans de bonnes vagues. Avec, au arvo, une houle de presque 12 pieds :  j’étais totalement crevé par le voyage. On s’en fout, je suis là pour surfer, alors envoyez du lourd !! PLC est arrivé le même jour, en fin de journée. Nous sommes installés ensemble avec deux Français : le cameraman bodysurfeur Jef Sarda et un autre bodysurfeur fred David, dans une maison sympa à Sunset. Depuis mon arrivée, le Pipe a été vraiment excellent les quatre premiers jours. Depuis, la houle Nord est entrée, faisant bouger le sable et changeant le beach break très rapidement. Avec des bonnes sessions à la Chambre à Gaz et à Pupukea. Samedi dernier, il y a eu la soirée de promo de la compétition à Ala Moana center in Waikiki. Parfait : sans doute la plus grosse promo que j’aie jamais faire, avec un tas de gens et une super organisation. Pierre et moi sommes arrivés ric-rac à la dernière seconde avant l’inauguration. Après la promo, un superbe buffet a été servi dans un grand hôtel. Ce dîner a été incroyable avec des légendes : Eppo, Bullet, Ben Severson, Pat Cadwell, Mike Stewart, Hauoli Reeves, Brian Wise et d’autres légendes comme Hubb, Kingy, Plauer, Dub… J’ai passé un excellent moment avec tous ces gars. Le sport a besoin de légendes, et nous en avons ! Et de belles, en plus. Depuis mardi 15, la compétition est lancée et la période d'attente ouverte. On attend de bonnes vagues bientôt. Hier, les éliminatoires ont commencé à Sandy Beach : 16 hommes et 3 femmes se sont qualifiés pour l’épreuve principale. La compétition en Drop Knee va aussi avoir lieu avec des célébrités comme Paul Roach, Cassdy Sonoda, Kainoa McGee, Matt Lackey et beaucoup d’autres… Et un débutant parmi eux : ma pomme. After Canarys back to Reunion Island in December : I was at home for Christmas and New Year. Some really good times with all my friends in the hot weather of Reunion's southern summer. After the Yuletide, on January the 2nd, I’ve been back on serious training, trying to get keyed-up for the hawaiian season. My training program was really complete with biking, fitness, diving, paddle, Jiujitsu and a lot of stretching. After a month of training, I was feeling ready to go. Then, I got my ticket to Honolulu via Sydney. Today, it is the cheapest and the shortest way for me to go there from Reunion. So on February the 3rd, I flew away to Sydney, I cruised there for two days, getting some new boards : they are amazing, really . Thanks, Dan Sivess! I arrived at Oahu on the 5th , Jeff Hubbard picked me up at the airport then we’ve been straight on the North Shore. Pipeline was pumping 5 feet and the swell was supposed to come in the arvo. We surfed for five hours, getting some nice waves. In the arvo, the swell was almost 12 feet and I was really exhausted after the trip. Anyway, I’m here for surfing, so let’s go for it!! PLC came on the same day, arriving at the airport at night. We are staying together with two French guys : the cameraman bodysurfer Jef Sarda and the bodysurfer Fred David in a nice home at Sunset. Since I’ve been there, Pipe has been really good on the first four days. Then, the North swell started to heat the coast moving the sand and changing the beach really fast. We are surfing mostly in the beach at the moment, some nice surf at Gas Chambers and Pupukea. Last Saturday, we had the promo of the comp at Ala Moana Center in Waikiki. Pretty good: the biggest and prettiest promo I’ve ever done, with so much people and a really nice organization. Pierre and I arrived at the last second, by the skin of our teeth. After this promo, we had a really nice buffet in a big hotel next to the Shopping Center. Actually, this dinner was legendary with guys like Eppo, Bullet, Ben Severson, Pat Cadwell, Mike Stewart, Hauoli Reeves, Brian Wise and few other younger legends as Hubb, Kingy, Player, Dub…. I had such a good time with all these guys. Sports need legends and we’ve got plenty .Really good ones. From February the 15th, the waiting period of the comp is ON. Hopefully some good swells are on the way. Yesterday the trails happened in Sandy Beach: 16 guys and 3 girls are qualified for the main event. The Drop Knee Comp will happen too with some legendary guests as Paul Roach, Cassdy Sonoda, Kainoa McGee, Matt Lackey and many more… And Muggins, as a novice.
